Class Descriptions

Ballet Classes

B. Pre Ballet (Ages 4-6) Description: This class is for students who are ready for a more structured class than creative movement. Students will begin to develop ballet concepts including turn out, coordination, terminology and specific focus on class etiquette. Students will begin positions of the feet, and be introduced to movement vocabulary. This class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

C. Ballet I (Ages 7-9) Description: For students with pre-ballet or no prior experience. These students begin to experience formally constructed classes, including center work as well as the technique and discipline of traditional ballet. This class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

D. Intermediate Ballet (Ages 9-12) Description: For students who have completed Ballet I, or students 10 and above with no previous training. Students expand their understanding of basic ballet technique and continue to develop a foundation for strength and proper alignment. This class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

E. Advanced Ballet/Pointe (Ages 13-18) Description: Students at this level will start class at the ballet barre to work on classical technique, executing combinations at different musical tempos and on different musical counts. This class further expands the dancer’s understanding of proper technique, posture, and placement, with a strong focus on turns and specific technique required for pointe work. The last 15 minuets of this class will be focused on dancers who are on pointe. This class meets once per week for 90 minutes.

Jazz Classes

A. Beginner Jazz (Ages 5-8) Description: Students will learn the basic steps of jazz dance with turns, kicks, and leap steps along with popular simple rhythm techniques and fun expression. It is recommended for the student to have previously taken, or be enrolled simultaneously in either creative movement, and/or Pre-Ballet. This class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

B. Intermediate Jazz (Ages 9-12) Students will expand upon their understanding of the basic steps learned in Jazz I. Description: This class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. This class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

C. Advanced Jazz (Ages 13-18) Description: This class includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps. Students will also learn many fun dance steps that are used for all forms of dance. It is a wonderful class to get a well-rounded variety of all dance steps. Students will learn choreography to popular and age appropriate music of today along with vintage styles of jazz from the last decades. This class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

(Girls) Any Leotard, Jazz Pants or Leggings. Camisole, Tank Top or T-shirt OK. NO loose clothing. Black or Nude Jazz Shoes. Foot Undies OK.
(Boys) Plain White T-shirt, Black Jazz Pants or Athletic Sweats (jeans not acceptable) Black Jazz Shoes


Tap Classes

A. Beginner Tap (Ages 5-8) Description: Students at this level will learn tap-rhythm and timing. Class consists of warm-up, center, and across the floor training. Proper terminology and musicality is stressed. No experience necessary. This class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

B. Intermediate Tap (Ages 9-12) Description: Students at this level will learn rhythm, coordination, and basic tap terminology. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. This class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

C. Advanced Tap (Ages 13-18) Description: Students at this level will develop speed, clarity, dynamics, and the ability to execute to complex rhythmic combinations. Students will put the fundamentals to work by learning new steps, rhythms, patterns, and combinations. This class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

A. Contemporary (Ages 13-18) Description: Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that connects the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. It combines elements of different dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music.

A. Lyrical (Ages 9-12) Description: Lyrical dance is a combination of ballet and jazz that often uses music with lyrics to inspire the movements. This style focuses on storytelling and strong emotion from the dancer. Lots of different types of music is used in lyrical dance.


A. Hip-Hop (Ages 5-8, 9-12, 13-18) Description: Hip Hop is all about attitude! It’s BIG! Big arms, big legs, and big movements. Movements in hip hop are characterized by bounces and rocks executed to hip hop and funk music. This class will be energetic and fun. We will learn musicality, body awareness, execution and styled movements.


Adult Tap/Jazz Class (NOT OFFERED)

Our adult classes are fun and lighthearted for both the inexperienced and experienced dancer. Tap class will include the basic steps and terminology of tap dance. Tap dancing is a great way to develop musicality, timing and balance. Jazz class will include a warm-up that develops strength, flexibility, coordination, and dance techniques specific to jazz dance. This class will include across the floor combinations as well as choreography in the center. This class meets once per week for 60 minutes. *The first half of the class will be tap and the second half of the class will be jazz.
